What is a vehicle graphics squeegee?
Probably the most essential tool for vehicle wrap installers is their squeegee. It’s a strange tool with a funny name that you’ve probably only heard about when you’re cleaning the window on your car at a gas station. In short, a squeegee is a small, rectangular tool used to press vinyl down to help ensure that it is straight and doesn’t create bumps or bubbles. Additionally, some types of vinyl have special air pockets created in them that allow for the vinyl to “float” on the surface. Once these pockets are pushed down using a squeegee, they pop and adhere securely to the vehicle.
While this seems straight forward and simple, there are actually a few types of squeegees that great different uses. Some are a little wider, usually for large surface. Other ones have a piece of felt attached to the end so that they don’t scratch or leave marks on the vinyl while being applied. It’s important to for an installer to know when they are working on a surface and vinyl that might scratch with a lot of pressure so they know when to use the proper squeegee.
Squeegees are great because they can also be used for niche like purpose where a separate tool might not make sense. One of the trickiest parts of vehicle wraps is making sure the vinyl is attached in all the nooks and crannies where doors are opening and closing or between panels on the vehicle. The narrowness of the squeegee allows our installers to slide it into these gaps and smooth out the vinyl, make it secure, preventing it from pulling off in the near future.
Although these odd little tools would be out of place in a common toolbox, they are an essential piece to Riveting Wraps operation. We use them daily and always have a full stock available to make sure your new vehicle wrap or graphic always looks as clean and sharp as possible.
