How does Laminating Improve Vehicle Graphics?
Laminating your vehicle graphics is one of the most important steps in having a long lasting quality vehicle wrap. Applying a premium laminate over the top of your printed graphics extends the life of your vehicle graphic, protects the graphics from dirt abrasion and environmental pollutants, and blocks UV rays to keep your colors vibrant.
The Anatomy of a Laminated Printed Vehicle Graphic
To understand why laminates are important, it is helpful to understand the anatomy of a printed vehicle graphics. It is easiest to think of it as an "Vehicle Wrap Sandwich" made up of three layers.
Bottom layer - Premium Self Adhesive Vehicle Wrap Vinyl
Middle layer - High Resolution Print with Latex Ink
The digital print is created on the surface of the vehicle wrap vinyl. While the latex ink is dried and cured, it does not penetrate into the vinyl. This makes a vehicle graphics print vulnerable to scratching or abrasion - dirt being the greatest cause of abrasion. The top of the "sandwich" is designed to protect this ink layer.
Top layer - Premium Self Adhesive Vehicle Wrap Laminate
Here at Riveting Wraps we use a cold press laminator to cover the entire printed surface with an optically clear 3M cast vinyl over laminate. (see the image above). The cold press laminator presses the printed vinyl and the over laminate together between large rollers to finish the "sandwich".
